"When I was introduced to AEE I had only been working in the outdoor adventure and education field for about a year. The impact that the relationships I have developed through AEE has allowed my career in this field to grow well beyond my expectations." - Jim, Member since 2014
"AEE is the most supportive, welcoming organization I have ever been involved with. The organization blends professionalism and collegiality really wonderfully. I have met so many interesting people from whom I have learned so much. It also gives me a lot of confidence in my field since I feel very informed about cutting-edge concepts and ideas." - Rosanne, Member since 2017
Help Us Launch the Dr. Nina Roberts Micro-Grant Fund
How can we support DEIB work right now? That’s the question that the Association for Experiential Education (AEE) asked and an amazing group of volunteers rose to the challenge and created the Dr. Nina Roberts Micro-Grants.
And we are so close. With $4,356 already in the Dr. Nina Roberts Social Justice Micro-Grant Fund, we need less than $700 more to reach our $5,000 goal and begin awarding these much needed micro-grants.
We now have the opportunity to honor Nina’s legacy in a tangible way. With your help, we can launch the first round of micro-grants, empowering individuals and communities to engage in the DEIB work that meant so much to her. The awarded funds must be applied towards work that creates more inclusive learning environments for future generations of our richly diverse population in the fields that use outdoor and experiential methods.
WAYS TO SUPPORT:
-
Purchase a t-shirt or sweatshirt from our Online Campaign
-
Purchase a copy of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Field Guide—a powerful collection of voices sharing lived experiences with racism, sexism, heterosexism, gender identity, ableism, and ageism. The guide challenges us all to dig deep, to listen with open hearts and minds, and to take meaningful action toward personal and systemic change. The vision for this resource—and the micro-grants it supports—came from Dr. Nina Roberts. Nina’s life and work illuminated pathways for equity, inclusion, and belonging in the outdoors and beyond. Even as her energy waned during her illness, she asked that her social justice torch be carried forward.

Gro Life Coaching
I am Leonie du Preez from Pretoria, South Africa. I am passionate about youth and holistic youth development. My company called Gro Life Coaching focus on Holistic youth development. We help youth to reach their full potential in four areas, namely body, mind, soul and spirit. We believe that if you understand, maintain and develop all areas of your life, you will reach your full potential.
Getting the 2023 Conference scholarship was the greatest gift after the pandemic. It was a great pleasure to travel, and to see and meet like-minded people who love nature and people. It was like family to share ideas and methodologies that can really help the youth who are challenged in so many areas, especially mental wellness. If not for the scholarship I would not have been there in person. It is unfortunately a very far trip. But the scholarship gave me the opportunity to travel to the USA.

Marin Burton’s story
I am choosing to financially support AEE because it is where I grew up professionally. I went to my first regional conference while I was an undergraduate student. I went to my first international conference when I graduated college and was looking for a professional community… and a job. I lead my first professional conference workshop at AEE and then about one a year since then. I got my first real volunteer experience as a member and then co-chair of the southeast regional council. I was on the council of regional chairs and then served on the board. I grew up here. While I wasn’t in the financial position to give to a significant level during most of those growing up years, I still gave what I could. I’m in a different financial position now and am excited to have the privilege to give back to the organization that served as the incubator for my professional growth.
I’m sure like many or most of you, AEE has also been a family for me. In addition to the professional connections I made, I’ve also made friendships I will cherish forever. Please join me in investing in AEE. I will match your donation for up to $10,000. Give back like me, or pay it forward, or give for the first time – AEE needs our investment in sustaining this organization that has given us so much.
